Students in 8th grade created some wonderful weavings! People learned to weave thousands of years ago using natural grasses, leafstalks, palm leaves, and thin strips of wood. Students could choose a traditional weaving design or a modern design of their choice.
Students learned about Navajo rugs; from the shearing of sheep for wool, to weaving on cardboard looms. Today weaving ranks as a major industry in many countries. Tapestry weaving has been known for hundreds of years in diverse cultures. In the 13th and 14th centuries the Church recognized the value of tapestries in illustrating Bible stories to its illiterate congregations.
